Title: Forestry Technician

SUMMARY
Assist Foresters with completion of field work in relation to forest management activities by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
5% Prepare maps of forest and non forest areas.
60% Complete field measurements for timber inventories, stump inventories, and
growth.
5% Prepare timber sales in accordance with Foresters directions including timber sale boundaries and designating timber for cutting.
5% Calculate timber inventories from field measurements.
2% Inspect logging operations for compliance with contracts, purchase agreements, and forest practices rules and regulations.
13% Prepare field reports.
5% Compile results of inventories and field reports for management plans and other client reports.
5% Perform the functions and duties as a Project Leader as necessary.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Occasionally supervise 0 to 5 employees in the Forestry Division. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assist with training employees; planning work for assigned projects; and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and/or an Associate Degree (A.A) in Forestry or related field; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.\par
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry-out instructions that are provided in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Valid drivers’ license.

TRAINING PROGRAM
There is a three-month probationary training period broken into three parts:
A) Task specific training under direct supervision of a Forester.
B) Individual’s progress with supervisor actively assisting as needed and routinely reviewing accomplishments.
C) Individual’s progress with supervisor assisting as needed and periodically reviewing accomplishments.
